The Clean Energy Career and Technical Education Pilot Program, funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, aims to develop clean energy career pathways for secondary school students transitioning into postsecondary education or employment. This initiative is part of a broader effort to align educational programs with the needs of the clean energy sector, ensuring that students gain both academic and technical skills, as well as foundational professional skills necessary for success in their careers and lives. The program emphasizes career-focused instruction, work-based learning experiences, and comprehensive support services, including childcare, transportation, and financial aid where appropriate. Eligible applicants include Regional Offices of Education, Intermediate Service Centers, state institutions of higher education, and other educational and community-based organizations. Successful applicants must demonstrate a credible model for career pathway sequencing, involve partnerships with community colleges, local workforce innovation areas, and employers, and provide detailed information about training providers and curriculum alignment. The program requires participation in technical assistance sessions and compliance with various reporting and performance data requirements. Awards will range from $250,000 to $750,000, with a total of $4,000,000 expected to be distributed among 8-15 recipients. The anticipated start date for awards is July 1, 2025, with a performance period through June 30, 2027.
